Basic Drawing Steps
Set Up

Open your mind.
2.
Choose the right materials and Lighting

Use a 4B
pencil to achieve a full range of value.
b.
I have set up a still life with a strong light
source.
3.
Position
you easel so that you can see both your drawing and what you are drawing without
moving your head.
4.
Complete compositional
sketches to decide what you want in the drawing.
5.
Layout your drawing. Work general-to-specific. Keep your marks light and loose. You will
make many corrections.
6.
Find the correct measurements, proportions and angles.
Adding Value
7.
Find shapes
of value
8.
Get rid
of all the lines. The rule is: "There
are no lines in real space."
9.
Squint
to see increased contrast
